A Wednesday Sundae Party!

This afternoon we celebrated the ending of our school year together with a sundae and movie party!  Students came up and chose sauces and toppings for their ice cream sundaes.  We then all sat back and enjoyed the move, Frozen.

Since tomorrow is our last day, it was a lovely way to end our year together.

A Wrap up to a Wonderful Year

Yesterday was Room 20's Celebration of Learning.  It was wonderful to see all the guests who joined us to make our party extra special.

All About Ancient Egypt (shared writing post)

Have you ever wondered about Ancient Egypt?  We've been learning about it for awhile and we last learned about mummies.  Have you ever heard about the pharaohs?  A pharaoh is a king who ruled Egypt.  There was one pharaoh named Cleopatra.  She killed herself with a poisonous snake called an asp.  She did it because other countries were invading.  The Nile River was the longest river in Ancient Egypt.  People used the river for transportation and each year it flooded, providing them with land to grow food.  We learned to write our names in hieroglyphics.  Hieroglyphics are what Ancient Egyptians wrote with.  It was fun to learn about Ancient Egypt in class.  It was one of our favourite school memories!

Medicine Bags with Mrs. Waters

Yesterday we had a chance to make our medicine bags that Mrs. Waters introduced to us last week.

We all received two pieces of hide that had been hole punched all the way around the outside.  Using a plastic needle and sinew, we stitched the two pieces of hide together.  We then put our initials on the inside and turned them inside out (or right side out since we stitched the inside).  

Later in the afternoon, Mrs. Waters returned for us to finish up our bag.  They now had new holes along the top.  We were given a piece of string made from hide to weave through the holes.  This allows us to close up our bags to keep the things we have inside safe.

A Busy Day

Today we accomplished a lot!  We went to the Summer Lending Library to check out all the books that are available to us to choose, we learned about Pharaohs, Anique shared with us a presentation and a special treat, and we had a chance to finish three of our Ancient Egypt activities.  

This morning we all headed down to the Heritage Summer Lending Library to check out the books available.  Students can borrow ten books to take home and read over the summer.  Please return your permission form ASAP to be able to take part in this wonderful opportunity!

We've been spending a lot of time lately learning all about Ancient Egypt.  Anique asked if she could share some information with the class.  She brought some artifacts from home and prepared a presentation to share her knowledge with the class.  She did an excellent job!  She spoke about several Pharaohs, which actually served as a great introduction to our Ancient Egypt topic of the day...Pharaohs!  She also provided us with a special treat to have after!  Thanks Anique and family!

This afternoon, we learned all about Pharaohs.  To help us remember some important facts about some of the more notable Egyptian pharaohs, we made a "Famous Pharaohs" foldable.
