Have you Ever Wondered what 1000 Looks Like?

Today we spent our Math periods making a visual representation of what 1000 looks like.  It's hard to imagine a number that big, so now we don't have to.  

Each student was given the job of glueing toothpicks on strips of paper in groups of ten.  This way each paper was a ten.  Once everyone had finished, we brought our groups of ten up to the carpet and made them into groups of 100.  Each time we had a group of 100 toothpicks (or ten groups of ten), we would start a new group.  This allowed us to count by 100s all the way to 1000, which is ten hundreds.  

Our goal is to put our representation up on our Math bulletin board so that we can use it as both a visual representation, and as a resource to help us with our understanding of three digit numbers.
