Halloween is a very exciting time of year! This past week, we were experiencing all that excitement here in Room 20.
We decided to take advantage of the holiday and incorporate it into our learning activities. We started the week by using pattern houses and candy (Mrs. Deyoe was really proud of how students respected the "no eating" rule!). We worked on identifying the core of a pattern, and then extending the pattern. We also talked about what an element is. We then spent some time predicting elements in a pattern.
The next day, we spent time working in Halloween stations. Altogether there were 8 stations, and students had to try to get to each one. Some of the stations were: Monster Measurement, Odd and Even Candy Sort, Halloween Poetry, making a skeleton, a quiet corner for reading Halloween stories, Halloween Math games, and an equation matching activity. Everyone had a lot of fun!
Thursday was Halloween! The whole school took part in a school wide Tabloid in the morning, then in the afternoon everyone dressed up! We had a parade in the gym to show off everyone's costume, then after recess we had our class party!
Happy Halloween!
