Lately we have been learning all about a new mental math strategy, doubles plus one. We've practiced the strategy, drawn the strategy, used the strategy, wrote a mini-book about the strategy, and now we are playing with the strategy. Today we tried out two new math games, using the doubles plus one strategy. Students worked with a partner and they chose one of the games to begin with. After about ten minutes, we switched games and each pair played the other game. We had a lot of fun.
We are looking forward to playing our favourite of the two games with you during our conferences.
