Today was our annual pancake breakfast! Every year on the last day of September, our regular breakfast program is cancelled, and during the morning, students are called down to eat pancakes and drink milk. Yum! Our class was lucky because we were still eating when all the classes had been called to the gym. That meant that we got extras! Some of us ate a total of 7 pancakes! I think we were all a little shocked!
Later this morning we reviewed some patterning concepts that we practiced earlier in the month. We practiced making a variety of repeating patterns, then predicted what random elements would be. We focused on AB patterns and ABC patterns because both of these lend themselves to using our number sense to figure out the element as opposed to extending the pattern. With AB patterns we can use odd and even numbers to help us, and with ABC patterns, we can skip count by 3s. We then practiced making increasing or growing patterns, and we ended our practice with making a decreasing pattern. We will continue to practice patterning throughout term 1.
