A Busy End to a Busy Week

What a way to end a week!  

We started the morning off with our monthly assembly and Room 20 had a nice surprise.  We won the Reading Award for all our reading and writing of poetry!  This means that our classroom received two new books for our library, and we get to have a popcorn party!  We are all really happy.

Jaden was chosen to go up and receive our award.

The assembly also ended our school celebration of the Olympics.  At our Opening Day assembly, we talked about what an Olympic Ambassador was and how each classroom would select two students who showed the three qualities of Olympic Ambassadors-excellence, friendship, and respect. 

Yesterday we talked about what each of these words meant, then each student got to choose three classmates who they thought best demonstrated those three qualities.  The choices were tallied and Kiera was chosen the most often of the Grade 2 students, and Sara the most often from the Grade 3s. During this morning's assembly, they received their awards!

Right after the assembly ended, we began our Olympic Tabloid.  Most stations were themed after an Olympic sport.  There was bobsleigh, curling, hockey, speed skating, and free style skiing!  Some other stations included Olympic trivia and a colouring contest.

This afternoon brought even more excitement with the Grade 4/5 hockey game.  The Grade 4/5 students wanted to give back to the community as a way of saying thank you for the opportunity our school has to be part of the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy.  The WJHA gives students a chance to play hockey when they may not otherwise have the opportunity.  They provide all the equipment and coaches as well as a wonderful lunch and academic coaching.  Our students (many of which are in our room), are very fortunate to be a part of this wonderful program!  The Grade 4/5s decided to host a hockey game and sell tickets for $2 or a food item.  All the money and food is going to a local organization, Got Bannock.

The game was a lot of fun!
